The menstrual cycle and metabolism are not separate systems. In fact, cyclical changes in hormones create a number of biological effects, from respiratory rate (yes, breathing) all the way to basal metabolic rate (how many calories the body uses at rest).
Metabolic rate varies greatly through the menstrual cycle: decreasing during the bleeding phase, falling to its lowest point just before ovulation, and then rising until the next bleeding phase. In addition, estrogen is known to suppress appetite, while progesterone has an opposite effect.

How Do CGMs Work?
Continuous Glucose Monitors track blood sugar through a tiny fiber that is inserted under the skin with a needle applicator. The fiber is attached to a small sensor that adheres to the back of the arm like a sticker. The needle does not stay in your skin - it is only used for application. Just the tiny flexible fiber stays behind. Applying a CGM is virtually painless. Promise!
Once applied, the CGM connects to an app on your phone via bluetooth and transmits real time data. The sensor can be worn in water and during other activities without worry. You can use a CGM to see how your blood sugar responds to sleep, stress, food, exercise, and hormonal rhythms. CGMs are classified as Durable Medial Equipment (DME) and are made to be worn for 14 days at a time.
